Greek producer Echonomist has landed on the likes of Watergate Records, microCastle and Upon You and received support from some of the industries biggest names including Ame and Dixon.

He now joins Chaim & Jenia Tarsol’s Blue Shadow with ‘Ossain’ including remixes from Disco Halal’s Autarkic and Space Paradise boss Thodoris Triantafillou. The EP dropped on July 1st and is available to buy HERE.

Hi Petros, how are you today? How has your year been so far?

Hello, I am really good!! Well actually its been an interesting year full of good surprises.

“In the end the need to create something completely mine was bigger.”

Firstly, your initial venture into electronic music was with IνΦο, an electronic band who made quite an impact on Greece’s scene. Why did you then decide to embark on a solo career?

To be honest the “Echonomist” project was already born when ινφο existed. The band was surely a good school concerning a lot of aspects and a unique experience but in the end the need to create something completely mine was bigger.

‘Ossain’ dropped on the 5th July and marks the second release on Chaim and Jenia Tarsol’s newly launched label Blue Shadow. How did the opportunity arise to become part of their label?

I think it was inevitable! Jenia and Chaim have been very good friends of mine over the last few years. I suppose it was somehow the extension of our friendship.

“All of my tracks come to life from long jams in my studio.”

Can you talk us through the creative processes of each of the tracks? What type of equipment did you use? Also how did Thodoris Triantafillou and Autarkic end up remixing ‘Ossain’?

All of my tracks come to life from long jams in my studio! For “Ossain” I had to record percussions with my friend Vasilis Bacharidis and most of the synth melodies come from Korg Ms20!

“Marys blues” is quite simple, just a raw beat that I created with my elektron analog rytm, using toms for the bass and the pad melody from the roland alpha juno. At the end I added an arp from the prophet6.

I use toft atb24 as a mixing desk and then I record everything in the computer.

Thodoris is a good friend of mine and he liked the track from the first time he listened to it so he asked to remix it. Autarkic is a good friend of Chaim and Jenia Tarsol.

We saw that you were invited by Dixon to play his ‘Transmoderna’ residency at Pacha Ibiza. How was that experience for you?

My appearance at Pacha with the Transmoderna project was unique. It will be a day to remember because I have always admired Dixon as an artist and so it was interesting and challenging in the same time.

“I still try though to spend some time in the studio when I am home, cause in the end it’s the food for my soul.”

You also have lots of tour dates this month alone, across Greece, Russia and Israel. What are the challenges of balancing touring and producing?

It’s quite difficult, especially during summer, when I usually have more gigs. I still try though to spend some time in the studio when I am home, cause in the end it’s the food for my soul.

Can you tell us what your current top 5 tracks are?

DC Sallas – The Past
Voon – Moonlight
Alex Dimou – Whats Keeps you there
Paulor – Spaceship (Vitalic Remix)
Kelllie Sakkaku – Massemba

Thanks for taking the time to talk to us today! Finally, what can we expect from Echonomist in the near future? Do you have any future projects, releases or gigs you’d like to shout about?

Some exciting things are coming out, but unfortunately nothing I can announce yet! Thanks for this interesting conversation.
