Mexico is slowly becoming a haven for disco lovers and connoisseurs of the rare groove. There are more gems to be found found in five peso record stores and antique shops around the country than one could imagine, and it’s also home to a lineup of talent like Rafael Fernandez, Dan Solo, Tomas Malo and the new Deep Sense label from DF. This week we head over to the caribbean side of Mexico, where Cancun native Fernando Mendoza sees his debut EP under The Funk District moniker released on Denver’s Hotbox Boogie label. The EP features a couple of funk cuts including an ace rework of Cameo’s Rigor Mortis, and one our favorite tracks so far is Feelin’ Arlright; a slow drive hovering down a cosmic jazz avenue somewhere in the Caribbean. The Hotbox Boogie outfit has been issuing proper smoked-out tunes since 2010, you can check out their releases here.
