Sept. 17-20, Oakdale, CA. In the seemingly dry and desolate Central California, thousands of people gathered at an oasis of music, art, and love known as Symbiosis Gathering. Typically a nomadic festival, 2015 was the first time the gathering was held at the same location, which is arguably the best part about it. The aquatic aspect at Woodward Reservoir was unmatched, offering refuge from the typical dusty, dry, festival heat. It was the festival’s ten year anniversary, and there were no short comings of presenting the best experience possible for the attendees. Luckily, part of the Music is 4 Lovers team was invited over to observe everything first hand.

From pop-hit breakfast celebrations to late night techno take overs, the music selection at Symbiosis was on point to say the least. Our friends from Desert Hearts kicked off the weekend with their deep techno and house vibe over at Juke Town, and Dirtybird continued that theme throughout their Saturday showcase. Justin Martin closed the Swimbiosis stage during Saturday’s sunset, delivering the patented Dirtybird sound of tech and booty house. He dropped a handful unreleased tracks, all of which stuck to his clean and playful style. A short while later, Dirtybird proceeded take over Juke Town, quickly turning the trap fest into an all out house party. Christian Martin and J. Phlip delivered the second round of Dirtybird beats, followed by Ardalan to close out right before sunrise. Aside from the music, dozens of art installations, workshops, and comedic performances provided a little bit of everything for everyone.

The most prominent aspect of Symbiosis was the unifying vibe that was undeniably the reason for the festival itself. Faces from all over California were brought together in a weekend dedicated to art and music. It’s rare to be surrounded with such inspiration and creativity, however only at Symbiosis is that strictly the norm- and us here at Music is 4 Lovers can’t wait to be back next year.
