Another blow to the 2020 events calendar, Spanish music conference and events brand Sònar announced recently it is officially postponing dates until 2021.

In an official statement, they said: “After carefully examining all of the alternatives and closely following the official guidelines, this decision has been reached as the only possible way to safeguard the health and wellbeing of all our festivalgoers, artists and teams.

The 27th edition of Sónar Barcelona and the 9th edition of Sónar + D will take place on June 17, 18 and 19, 2021  at the Fira Montjuïc venues in Barcelona and the Fira Gran Via in L’Hospitalet.

Planning to reschedule the 2020 events for next year, they thanked everyone for showing an interest and offered ticket holders the opportunity to roll over their already purchased tickets to 2021, or refund the value in full.

Music fans looking for a party a little sooner can attend a Sónar + D event on September 18 and 19 at the Center de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB). Designed with current restrictions in mind, this event will be “attending to the needs and concerns of creative communities, both local and international.” They said.

“Sónar + D CCCB will be a fundamentally online and free event, which will feature an extensive program of participatory and online activities that we will program together with the TodaysArt (The Hague), Unsound (Krakow) and Reworks (Thessaloniki) festivals, our partners in the European Union program We Are Europe. All the details of this special edition will be announced soon, to which, without a doubt, we will be incorporating new partners in the coming weeks.”
