Toyboy & Robin have delivered their fresh three track “Palace EP” on the newly minted Regression Sessions label. While this marks just the second release for the label, Regression Sessions is already well known in the UK for hosting some of the top parties in venues across the country. They’ve come correct with this release from Toyboy & Robin featuring a smashing remix by Crosstown Rebels mainstay Russ Yallop.
The title track ‘Palace’ kicks things off for the EP, offering upfront classic house tones paired with tight percussion. ‘Palace’ features warm filtered chords thoughout with a smooth breakdown that keeps the energy flowing well. Sparse vocal chops lend to the clean rolling groove and repetitive nature of the track that’s a nice balance of groove and chill.
‘This That’ comes up next with a jungle heavy dose of drums right off the bat. This tech house charmer kicks a bit of latin flair with a heavy bassline, big rolling drums, and well programmed hats that drive towards a one finger melody stab. Lots of energy in this one that’s destined to shuffle feet.
Russ Yallop lends himself to a nice and deep remix of ‘Palace’ that channels good vibes and positive energy from the start. He ups the ante on the classic house feeling with more emphasis on the vocal sample and ringing symbols for good measure. Finished off with a tinge of acid, Russ Yallop’s flip of ‘Palace’ will surely prove a good tool for DJs on almost any dance floor.
All in all, Toyboy & Robin have put together an excellent EP with a wide range of appeal. Straight up house and tech house is what these guys are known for, and that’s exactly what they’ve given us on the upcoming “Palace EP”.
