Editor’s Review: “This lockdown album by Jimpster was made in 2020 and finally sees the light of day this week on Friday.  Birdhouse is Jimpsters seventh album, this time he takes a step away from the dance floor to revisit his early inspirations. The title tracks opens and sets the mood, while ‘Ascension’ follows with UK vocalist Oliver Night. ‘Voodoo’ featuring Yoh who adds a new dimension to the Jimpster sound. ‘Still Believe’ takes us on a tripped-out journey, with MPC beats punctuated with otherworldly vocal. London vocalist Cairo features on ‘Beautiful Day’, with Johannesburg-native Lazarusman delivers ‘Heavy’, with its haunting reverb-drenched horn, Detroit chord stabs and filtered drums.  ‘Future Paradise’ drops the BPM’s for a slow-stepping synth ride mixing up rising arpeggios, FX and lush strings. ‘Rain’ is an understated slice of contemporary soul with the vocal of Cairo, underpinned by loose, crunchy beats, dusty keys and moog. ‘Doors Of Your Heart’ sees Jimpster chopping up a funk groove with a killer live bass line. Lush keys, modular synths and crazy FX  take this up into the stratosphere. ‘Tell You’ goes deep with touches of cinematic big band horns and a looped up vocal sample. Closing with ‘Full Circle’  with its muted synth arps and subtle FX to drift away to. Birdhouse, with its soulful touches, live instrumentation, and vocal collaborations, could possibly be his best work yet.
