Interview with Deej

1.) Who is Deej?

Deej is a DJ/Producer from Leicester who owns records labels  The Groove Stage & Kooley High Records.

2.) Tell about your new Record Label – Kooley High Records?

Kooley High Records is something ive had in the pipe line for a while and im very excited about it. Kooley High focuses more on the deeper sides of music with a good balance between house music and hiphop , you can expect anything from deeper down tempo to more soul and heavily sampled tunes. I really like to hear more obscure sounds that make you dance and with this allowing TGS to go back its roots of 90s underhround

4.) Please tell us about the electronic scene in your City. What artists do you love past and present that have inspired and encouraged you and what parties that you love going to have helped your musical evolution.

Leicester house scene has been great over years, to me the City Fly club nights was some of the best partys, back then good friend Jonna took me under his belt as i was a upcoming dj and gave me regular slots for City Fly where i had some of the best nights, following this i then started The Groove Stage club nights which went on for for 5-6 years! Sophbeck was a great spot but unfortunately it closed its doors a couple of years ago, it was a pretty sad moment and took a big chunk of the underground scene. Luckily we still have events like Atone which host bigger names such as Horse Meat Disco, Artwork, Dam Swindle & more. Also a great party to go to is a place called Apres Lounge on a Friday night where Flat White Records bossman Flat White Chris hosts his own resident party, always a great vibe out in the heated sheltered dancefloor.

5.) How have you been keeping busy during lockdown?

Lockdown to me has been tough without the club nights but at the same time has been pretty positive on myself as ive managed to complete my album which is out now titled “248” plus ive been doin monthly selection show on radio 2 funky which has been great. Ive also been working very hard on alot of new music that i plan to bring out next year.

6.) What else can we expect from Kooley high Records over the next year?

Ive got so many great artist and great music ready to come out on Kooley High and im very excited to share all this with you guys. Also some great guest mix’s lined up for our brand new podcast series called Above The Clouds.
