Making waves all the way from the City of Barcelona, Daniel Orpi is a fresh addition to the modern dance scene. Based in London, the talented producer and DJ has dived into the underground music space, emerging with unique mixes and sounds that have impressed music legends such as Annie Mac and Danny Howard.

Since 2016, Orpi and his music creation has been non-stop. Early shows at some of London’s hottest venues such as Fabric and Village Underground saw Orpi mixing alongside the likes of Darius Syrossian, Richy Ahmed and Steve Lawler.

Growing up, Daniel was influenced by Hip-Hop, R&B and Graffiti Art. In recent works he has created animated clips to represent his inspiration to go alongside his music, giving listeners a better feel for what he represents. He displays a unique vision of his brand and showcases how he has grown as a producer over the pandemic.

Last week Daniel dropped his latest release on Whippin. The Angel De La Guarda EP is a three-track collection packed full of his signature house grooves and quirky samples that demonstrates both the depth and range of his production. Here, Daniel has picked out 10 of the key tracks that have influenced him over the course of his career.

Armand Van Helden – You Don’t Know Me

I still remember when I first came to live in London I was listening to this in loop. The sample hook with the vocal just makes this one of my all time favourites. No matter how old the record is, it still does the job!

Reel People – Golden Lady – Louie Vega Roots Mix

I discovered this track when I went to see Elements of Life live. Felt in love instantly with it, love to play it when I’m walking around or driving, pure good vibes.

Neneh Cherry – Buddy X (Masters At Work Remix)

Timeless classic with chords full of richness. I saw The Martinez Brothers playing this and it blew my mind !!

Tim Baresko & Room 303 – Marilyn Monroe

One of the tracks I was always played when I first started performing. The melody and the vocals are outstanding, my boy Tim really nailed this one.

Roisin Murphy, Luca C & Brigante – Invisions

I used to play this track every morning to get to work when I moved to London. The vocals and the stabs still give me goosebumps. Just one of those records that gets you ready for the day!

Amine Edge & DANCE feat. SerGy – Bad Influence (Yin Mix)

Sexy ass track from my homies ! One of my favourite productions from them, SerGy’s vocals are on point and definitely gives a uniqueness to this track.

Seal – Fly Like an Eagle

This brings back so many good memories as a child. My all time favourite movie as a kid was Space Jam, after so long I still listen to this and still love it.

Michael Jackson – Billie Jean

I could put all the discography of Michael, he is definitely one of, if not my favourite artist/songwriter. Billie Jean is one of my picks from him.

Tony Braxton – You’re Makin’ Me High

I’m a big fan of the late 90’s and 2000’s RnB, and most of my music is influenced by this style. This is just another anthem from back then, I could listen to this all day.

Janet Jackson – Together Again

Another of my favourite songwriters. Janet is just on another level, the songs are so sexy and the lyrics are dope. A lot of my productions are influenced by songs like these.
