Luke Mandala is well-known in the transformational circuit. Whether making psychedelic bass cuts under his Mandala Affect moniker, or punchy house under his primary, he’s been a staple in the Oregon and SoCal underground scenes for well over a decade now. The artist has taken a taste of hippie festival life with him in his latest EP, ‘Fire Eyes,’ which debuted on Desert Hearts Records today.

Both tunes on ‘Fire Eyes’ are built for fervent movement. The rabbit hole begins with its title opener, which stimulates the eardrums with pungent bass and rabid synth riffs. Come “You Know,” we progress deeper into the trip that is “Fire Eyes” with a monotone speech by Aja Monet placed over off-kilter melodies and a strong low-end to match that of its preceding track.
