Interview with Luca Bacchetti
How did you first get introduced to underground dance music? What is the most challenging part of becoming a full-time producer and touring artist?
There were no clubs or records shops where I was born, so Radio saved my life! I discovered Hip Hop in 1988. House and electronica a few years later and from 1995 to 2002 I fell in love with drum’n’bass, breakbeat and its derivatives. Techno came later and in 2002 I started producing my own music. The challenge is not to became the ‘job’ you are doing, to avoid falling into a routine, you know what I mean? Music deserves love.
What has been the most exciting turning point of your career so far?
I think 4 years ago when I felt like I needed to start from scratch. I’ve always been critical with myself but in that moment I was question everything and I needed to see things from another perspective. ENDLESS was the first step of the new era.
Where is your home base? If someone were visiting there for the first time, what clubs, parties, and restaurants would they want to check out?
During the year I spend short periods in Barcelona where there is a great club scene. Clubs like Nitsa and Razzmatazz host great artists every weekend. I’m mainly based in Tuscany, it’s a bucolic life away from the chaos. The nature here is so beautiful and I feel blessed to be able to make music in such a beautiful environment.
On these mountains during the winter snowshoeing is a must… It’s a relaxing place. Close to my place there is an excellent Pizzeria. Such great food. Don’t forget I’m in Tuscany!! Now I have so many friends coming to Tuscany every year, that I have a special itinerary for them.
What advice would you give to an aspiring producer?
Firstly I would ask him why he’d like to do this job. If the reason is a great passion for music, a real obsession, then he doesn’t need my advice.
What’s on the horizon for Luca Bacchetti in 2018?
The main project is my own album. I’m working on an electronica album, the recording sessions have taken place at il Ciocco estate in Tuscany where I’ve recorded different musicians, it’s a very exciting and ambitious project. And of course I will release a new EP on ENDLESS and a few remixes.
Do you have any hobbies outside of music?
Books books and books! I’m hungry for knowledge and my library is growing. I also love to travel, thanks to my job I’m able to visit incredible places around the world, sometimes I feel very fortunate.
What are some touristy things you do while playing in a foreign city?
When I have days off I love to take pictures, nothing professional I have just a normal camera but I want my pictures to tell stories, everybody is a photographer nowadays… but where are the storytellers?
If you look at my calendar and that of my DJ colleagues you will see that we usually play the same cities, but what about Memphis? Oklahoma City? Nashville? Salt Lake? Santa Fe? I’d like to do a tour in smaller cities for the smaller scenes. First of all I’m a music lover, I’d like to discover more about the US and explore its musical heritage.
Name one of your go-to tracks…
Difficult to say, maybe ‘Vento’? The remix of ‘Pollen Spreader’ or the remix of ‘Lonely Stars In Open Skies.’ These have always got their slot in my dj sets.
Tell us about your mix…
It’s a more energetic podcast recorded on a Sunday evening while outside it was snowing. It includes some of the works that I love at the moment, plus some upcoming material.
Drink of choice…
Hot water, dry ginger powder, turmeric, lemon and honey… Shake it!
