Interview with George Morel
How did you first get introduced to underground dance music? What is the most challenging part of becoming a full-time producer and touring artist?
I got introduced to underground when it first started coming from Chicago in the 90’s. The most challenging for me is being able to split time between my personal time and work life. I love them both just as much. Ooh, and getting some rest during long flights before the event.
What has been the most exciting turning point of your career so far?
The most exciting is when I see the crowd react to my music or I’m waking down the street and a car drives by playing one of my releases. That’s always a turn point to keep me making more.
Where is your home base? If someone were visiting there for the first time, what clubs and/or parties and/or restaurants would they want to check out?
My home is based in Miami even thou my family and I also have a place in Dusseldorf. In Miami I have them check out a good latin restaurant, Nobu and Resident Advisors for local events. In Dusseldorf, spots and scenery around the old town.
What advice would you give to an aspiring producer?
Never give up! if things are not flowing as expected figure out why and try again.
What’s on the horizon for George Morel the rest of 2017?
I have around 2 or 3 more releases line up for 2017 one on a new label called ll.0 plus one on Groove On but, I never know if some others may end up hatching out during the course of the year.
Do you have any hobbies outside of music?
I have lots such complete renovation of boats/yachts from top to bottom, biking, good restaurants, home decoration and watching a good movie when possible etc etc…
What are some touristy things you do while playing in a foreign city?
I enjoy discovering and getting lost walking through the city or town sites plus finding cool spots.
I find every gig a dream. Any Dj can tell you that when a crowd is under your control and reacting to your sound, is always extremely enjoyable.
Name one of your go-to tracks…
There is so much great music out theses days that is hard to select one choice. They are too many to pick from. I’m happy to fit lots in my memory stick but one that always seen to works is Lets Groove
Tell us about your mix…
My mixes are base on feel and translating a 1 hr. of music to for the listeners to enjoy from the beginning to the end.
Drink of choice…
Cranberry & Vodka, Caipirinha or white wine.
