Brilliant Polish duo, Catz ‘N Dogz, creates a very special mix for our milestone 200th Lovecast episode.

Aside from running their own record label, Pets Recordings, which has released tracks from likes of Eats Everything, Kill Frenzy, Till Von Sein, Tom Demac, Danny Daze and KiNK, the two have produced original tunes and remixes for an array of top label themselves, including Dirtybird, Get Physical, Suara, Ellum, and I/AM/ME.

We’ve been giant fans of Catz ‘N Dogz since the beginning on MI4L, so we’re ecstatic to feature the duo for this landmark moment. Here are a few words from Catz ‘N Dogz about the podcast…

“Quite recently we met and had a chat with a DJ whose work we’ve liked and respected for many years. During the conversations he said to us: ‘Oh, I didn’t know that you guys play good music.’ It was a very honest comment and oddly pretty nice to hear. It made us laugh, but also it got us thinking about perception: how other people see what we do & that nobody is ever really able to understand one’s artistic vision. What does ‘good music’ actually mean? For us it means honesty.

A few days after this meet up, we got a request from Music is 4 Lovers’ to record the 200th episode of their Lovecast series. We put a lot of thought into this mix. It’s something totally different and 100% honest. It’s more than just a podcast for us, it’s certain feelings and emotions that we want to display and create through the music. It reflects certain moments in our lives and brings back some of the best memories of driving around our hometown in the car with friends, listening to our favourite mixes.

It’s not gonna be for everybody and won’t work for every moment, but it’s 2 hours of music we love. No genres.” – Catz ‘N Dogz

Enjoy!

Interview with Catz ‘N Dogz

How did you first get introduced to underground dance music? What is the most challenging part of becoming a full-time producer and touring artist?
We both come from the same city Szczecin in Poland. Poland in the 80’s was still a communist country and the only way to listen to some music was the radio. They were mostly playing 80’s new romantic and italo disco which was pretty cool. Lucky for us Szczecin was very close to the German border and Berlin when in the early 90’s techno and rave movement was very big. We could listen to some weird electronic music on the radio catching Berlin underground radio stations on FM.

That was just a matter of time when we took first trip to Berlin to explore the record shops.

I think for us and for most people from our region was the money. We had daytime jobs and we were djing and all the money we were spending on records. It was hard at the beginning and most of the people stop at this point and get a “normal job” like their parents are suggesting. We really believed in our music, we were motivating ourselves and of course we had some luck with where we wee sending our demos and people that we meet in Berlin. I think for us the most challenging part of in was to believe that it is really happening and we’re as good as our friends from abroad who make music.

What has been the most exciting turning point of your career so far?
There was definitely a lot of moments, right now we have a very good time with Voitek, as most of the parties we play are great and especially in US the scene is amazing. People really dig what you play, they know the music and the history of the music. They are very into it so its fantastic to play for an educated crowd. Its challenging but we love it.

We get very inspired by the parties and our US trips.

Also meeting your all time heroes when you were staring to get into the electronic music is always very interesting and motivates us a lot.

Where is your home base? If someone were visiting there for the first time, what clubs and/or parties and/or restaurants would they want to check out?
Our homebase was Berlin, we still have a studio there where we meet with Voitek every few weeks, we have our manager and label manager there and of course lots of friends. Right now Voitek moved to Madrid and I moved to our hometown, just 2h away from Berlin to Poland.

Its definitely worth to visit Berlin if you still didn’t. The scene there is very special. Its changed but still there is no place like Berlin on the planet when it comes to clubbing.

The best way to feel the atmosphere there is just visit the city in the summer as it’s the best time for open-airs in town and in the area. Lots of good and cheap restaurants everywhere and parties.

What advice would you give to an aspiring producer?
You need to be really focus on what you are doing, where you want to go with this and when it’s hard you need to believe in yourself and follow your music taste.

What’s on the horizon for Catz N Dogz in 2017?
We have a great release coming up in the end of August – Marlena Shaw – Woman Of The Ghetto (Catz ‘n Dogz Remix), everybody is playing this track right now, we will also put a very special single in November on our label Pets. Next year we are going to start working on the new album, we’re coming to USA every month right now, lots of festivals, we’re going to tour South America in October, Australia and Fiji in December.

Also lots of good ep’s on Pets and Step Recordings coming out soon.

Do you have any hobbies outside of music?
FOOD, Traveling, technology, nature, art

What are some touristy things you do while playing in a foreign city?
