There are not many places in the world that can boast about throwing one of the best parties, and certainly not on a Tuesday, but that is exactly what Carl Cox does and has been doing at Space Ibiza for 13 years. July marked the kicked off the 13th consecutive year for Carl Cox’s Revolution Party and there was quite a buzz on the Island days before it kicked off. The lineup was stacked as it will be all summer long, with names like Dubfire, Nic Fanciulli, DJ Sneak, Tania Vulcano, Maxxi Soundsystem and more all having a go for the opening fiesta.
Nic Fanciulli was set to warm things up and the Main Room was already packed but with always just enough room to dance. Nic started things off perfectly, with more subtle and deeper tunes, slowly progressing into harder hitting tracks like “Italoboyz – Hifi” that would prove to be a perfect segue into Dubfire’s upcoming set.
Dubfire kicked things off just after 1:30 in the morning and amplified the energy Nic had been building. Everyone in the room was loving it, and his set was a massive standout, talked about for days after, with many people saying they wish he could have played hours longer. It was a full-fledged techno set that left everyone with a sweat soaked T-shirt.
When 3am hit and King Cox was set to take the stage, it was a techno takeover in the most serious sense of the word. The opening to Carl’s set was that of epic proportions and grabbed everyone’s attention without question. Red lasers filled the room, a deep ominous voice spoke over the Funktion One sound system and it was clear that the man himself, King Cox, was ready to tear the roof off Space for the next 4 hours. At every turn there was a new lighting rig appearing on the ceiling or behind the decks, CO2 seemed to be coming from everywhere and the energy at Space was almost overwhelming. We all found our positions on the dance floor and locked it in for the next 4 hours. No bathroom breaks, no runs for water, no smokes. Just hard hitting techno and a cardio intense workout until the lights kicked on.
Every Tuesday Carl Cox and his long list of talented friends will be back at Space doing what they do best. Throwing one of the best damn parties on the Island. Be sure to catch one of the 12 dates throughout the summer.
Kicking off its second and well deserved season, Enter by Richie Hawtin, is back at Space Ibiza. We had the opportunity to attend the inaugural ball that was the Enter Opening Party with a rock solid lineup featuring Paco Osuna, Gaiser, Hot Since 82, Tales of Us, Nina Kraviz and, of course, Richie himself it was sure to be a spectacular evening.
We arrived just past 2am to a packed house and a beautifully decorated and designed one at that. Richie and his team go above and beyond when it comes to the details of creating ambiance in and around the club. No stone goes unturned and this can be seen all over the club all the way down to having the bathroom attendants wearing Enter shirts when all other nights they go unnoticed. The pillows are changed to adhere to his all black dot theme and its almost an unspoken rule to those who follow the night that all black is the only option in deciding what to wear.
Richie also takes it a step further, and hosts a Sake tasting on the sunset terrace which he will be doing every week, featuring some of the largest names in the industry such as Maceo Plex, Eats Everything, Disclosure and more.
This year we also see a big change in the names featured on the weekly schedules. Names like Disclosure are not something you would associate with Hawtin’s sound but I believe this could be a way of attracting people that may not be to keen on Richie’s sound and getting them to step outside there box a bit and expose them to a new side of dance music.
There really is no detail that has gone unnoticed during Richie’s night from the very well curated line-ups to the personal time he spends at the sake tastings with fans showing them some of his passions outside the realm of dance music he really does go beyond the call of duty to bring something new, fresh and needed on the island.
With so many options on the Island it may seem overwhelming and a bit tough to squeeze everything into a holiday that may only be a few days long but if there is one party I can without question tell you is a must that would be Enter every Thursday at Space.
