House Gospel Choir return with two new versions of ‘God Is Trying’, from HGC resident Harrsn and Baltimore house talent Karizma, out 26th February and 5th March respectively.

Taking inspiration from Quincy Jones’s 1985 classic ‘Maybe God Is Tryin’ To Tell You Something’ off ‘The Colour Purple’ soundtrack, Harssn delivers an infectious 90s house rework, combining a driving bassline with feelgood piano chords and the choir’s always on-point gospel vocals with his remix. Next up, ‘Kaytronik’s Speak Dub’ sees Karizma channel deep, hypnotic house vibes while also ensuring that the choir’s gospel energy remains centre stage.

It follows an array of House Gospel Choir remixes, from acclaimed artists such as Zed Bias, Funk Butcher and Mike Delinquent, with a full remix package for their recent debut album RE//CHOIRED also in the pipeline.

With the remix marking his first ever release, Harssn is both a musical newcomer and the House Gospel Choir resident DJ. With several HGC production credits and a mini mix for BBC Radio 1 tastemaker Annie Mac already under his belt, it’s fair to say you can expect to hear a lot more from this up-and-coming talent sooner rather than later.

A DJ since the age of 13, Karizma is globally renowned for his CDJ wizardry and was even the subject of a Resident Advisor ‘Art of DJing’ feature. He also has countless production and remix credits to his name, including work with Basement Boys, Black Vinyl Records, Ricanstruction, 83 West, Objektivity, R2, Ben Westbeech, Peven Everett and more.

An acclaimed 13-track LP, RE//CHOIRED was born out of a love for sound system culture, the healing power of house music and the group seeking to channel the magic of people working together to raise the vibrations. Collaborator Todd Terry recently declared to Mistajam on Capital Dance about the choir: “It’s beautiful, it’s black and it’s proud”.

The album some of the biggest producers in dance music, with house legends Todd Terry and DJ Spen, UKG favourite Wookie, BBC Radio 1 tastemaker Toddla T and Grammy-nominated producer Alex Metric all contributing amidst a star-studded list of production talent.

Bringing together a group of outstanding singers, songwriters, DJ’s and music makers, House Gospel Choir’s live sets create a fusion of the biggest house, gospel and garage tunes that make every performance an unforgettable experience. They burst onto the scene with Salvation’ , a debut single that was crowned BBC Radio 1 ‘Hottest Record’ by Annie Mac, peaking at #1 in the Music Week Cool Cuts Chart and #5 in the Billboard Dance Club Chart.

In a challenging year, HGC were determined to do what they do best and keep raising those positive vibrations so 2020 saw the collective perform with Kylie Minogue for the ‘Infinite Disco’ live stream, the launch show for BBC Strictly Come Dancing, BBC Radio 1’s Annie Mac in Mix takeover and live session for BBC Radio 2 Rylan on Saturday.  2021 has already seen HGC play a special Valentine’s Day live show for the GRAMMYs before they embark on a UK tour in May, June & July (see full tour dates below, with tickets available here).Harssn and Karizma’s remixes of ‘God Is Trying’ capture the essence of the House Gospel Choir sound.
