Azzecca, whose 3 million streamed ‘Other Side’ EP (Higher Ground, Nov) and new smash remix of TIBASKO’s ‘Still Rushing’ swiftly branded her as a hot name in techno/house/dark dance, turns up the heat still more with new single ‘Ego Death’, out now on REALM Records.

‘Ego Death’ uses breakdowns and bass drops in a two-pronged attack. Breakdowns are dominated by a cool RP voice describing the phenomenon joined by an ethereal vocal bringing the psychedelic woozy vibe, while the snarling, demanding bass drops build in power and suspense, together with bongos and beats hitting our every brain receptor, create a frenzy of ego-free joy for dance acolytes everywhere.

After her recent scorching sets at REALM showcases at Printworks and fabric, ‘Ego Death’ is the first single for Azzecca (aka Allie DeCastris) on Gorgon City’s imprint, with a second following in the spring. The fiery Chicago DJ/producer and creator of its infamous female-focussed Dirty Disco nights also has CRSSD NYE, EDC Mexico, History Toronto (direct support for Camelphat), and a headline show at Big Pink Detroit under her belt.

‘Ego Death is probably my favourite track thus far. I feel like it’s a really nice response to ‘Other Side,’ both in production and in meaning’ Allie says. ‘Some say Ego Death is a feeling you achieve by using psychedelics, but I think you can find it on the dance floor, at peace in the moment. Letting go of your ego allows you to connect with the world around you in completely new ways, and I want this to be a song people can really get lost in.’
