Interview with Bastard Love

We’ve read that you come from quite the musical background, has music always been your passion?
Yeah, that’s right. Since a child I was surrounded of musicians, so I started taking vocal lessons and studied musical composition.

How did you initially get into DJing and producing? Was there a specific moment of inspiration or was it a gradual process?
I started as an observer in the electronic scene. I told ya, I was a musician my whole life so I decided to combine madness with my music skills. It was easy to get into it. One special night I will always remember: Damian Lazarus was playing in Mexico City a long time ago, more than 10 years back, and after I saw him playing I decided to start DJing myself. I love what he did, the people were going crazy–I love craziness… and of course music. So here I am.

Where do you call home? How does the local scene influence your music?
Of course my home-base is Mexico City. I love what we are doing here. This is my home, but I’ve had the opportunity to travel, so I’ve lived in many cities where the scene is huge. Living in London and Berlin changed my life.

How did you come up with the name Bastard Love?
I’m kinda have a bipolar personality; the people who know me well will know what I’m talking about. It’s simple: I love house and I love techno. Love is house, Bastard is techno.

Who have been your biggest musical influences?
Fisherspooner, Depeche Mode, Ian Brown, and a lot of blues, jazz and pop music.

What’s on the agenda for 2016?
I have a lot of work next year. BPM is coming up and I am part of that family. I am starting a new project, the most important project for me in 2016, a label called Whims, with a big family you’re gonna love. I have a bunch of solo tracks lined up, and many good collaborations as well; not only for the house / techno dance music scene–it’s a surprise. The promoting side is challenging, so I’m going to focus more into what makes me happy, which is Bastard Love.

What’s one track you throw down to get everyone on the dance floor?
I have a track with my friend Gog, Louder’s head honcho, that I really love. It’s coming out in December on Motek.

“Lies” BLove & Gog with remix from an Italian friend, Slok. Actually put this track into the mix. Hope you like it.

Tell us about your mix…
I don’t know, but I love being spontaneous so this mix has that felling. Actually, I recorded  this mix at a house party with friends by the pool. Includes music from fellas I love, friends and Bastard stuff.

Drink of choice…
There is a drink called “Orgasm.”
